When depicting a distinct time like the 1940's a lot of factors come into play, in our case it was mainly the wardrobe that we wanted to focus on. Through our research outlined in a previous post we found that the typical detective in a film noir production, wears a long trench coat, a short brimmed hat, dress shirt with a particularly ugly tie and black shoes. This is what Lara went for when designing the costumes. She wanted Briggs to have this exact outfit. So we went to Goodwill to find a cheap trench coat, which we found for the low price of just $5. In the end we spent just $15 on the entire wardrobe. The hat surprisingly cost $10. I had the shirt, tie, pants and shoes. Overall I am very satisfied with how the outfit came out. I feel that it depicts the character perfectly in his time. Tomorrow when we film I am going to try and learn how to tie this tie, my dad had to tie it for me to try everything on. I want to finally learn the elusive skill. Lara had the task to portray a wealthy woman from the 1940's. Adele Leroux is very well off in this story and based on our prior research these women would wear dresses and accessories like gloves, scarves and makeup. Apparently something called a shawl also, which Lara is wearing in the pic. A little backstory on the shawl, it was made for her mother by her grandmother. So this shawl has some history behind it. As far as I know Lara managed to put this outfit together from things she had around the house.
